Graham Walks for Hospice Calgary

May 26 2017

On Sunday, May 7, Graham employees in Calgary donned their walking shoes and once again joined the annual Hike for Hospice, bringing friends and families out to support the cause. A tradition for the Calgary Graham offices, Hike for Hospice is an opportunity to honour loved ones and raise money for those who may one day need the services of Hospice Calgary.

Graham has a long-standing relationship with Hospice Calgary, having donated expertise and time to transform a former law office into the Hospice Calgary Counselling and Education Centre. Since then, Graham has consistently sponsored the annual Hike.

“I’ve seen firsthand the amazing service that Hospice provides to those who are in need of respite or end of life care,” Shannon Quinney, Executive Assistant, Graham, explaining why she participates. “It’s a service that is almost exclusively funded by donations and the Hike for Hospice is a great initiative to support Hospice funding. The Hike was also a great opportunity for my family to be together for an outdoor activity and support a great cause.”

This year, despite chilly weather, more than 100 employees and their families signed up for the 5 km (3.1 mi.) walk in support of Hospice Calgary. Graham and our employees contributed more than CDN$6,000 towards the event, which raises money to counsel grieving family members, provide end-of-life care, and continue to educate palliative professionals. In total, over 700 hikers participated, collectively raising more than CDN$140,000 for Hospice Calgary’s programs and services.

“Graham has been an important part of the Hike for Hospice Calgary since 2010, contributing over $32,000 to Hospice Calgary’s programs and services,” shares Carrie Beaudry, Event Coordinator at Hospice Calgary. “Thank you so much for your continuing support – we could not have done it without you!”
