Graham Celebrates Earth Day!
On April 21, 2017, employees from across the Company took part in green initiatives to celebrate Graham’s Environmental Day, which coincides with Earth Day. For the second year in a row, employees and workforce partners paid tribute to Earth Day by increasing our focus on activities that benefit our environment and preserve our resources.
Office and project teams were given the opportunity to participate in an environmental focus that resonated with them. Activities included:
- Cleaning up and collecting litter at local trail systems and parks
- Hosting battery and recycling stations in Graham offices
- Distributing re-usable bags to employees and surrounding community members
- Planting trees and landscaping
- Revitalizing outdoor picnic areas
- Demonstrating mock-spill response best practices
- Hosting guest speakers to speak to various environmental topics related to how Graham builds
“Our team chose to focus on revitalizing outdoor spaces,” explains Michael Markowski, Operations Manager in our Edmonton office. “A good part of the office team headed up to Atikameg, Alberta to plant trees, install fire pits and build outdoor picnic tables for the Whitefish First Nation. It was a great way to give back to the community and provide the amenities they needed to better enjoy their outdoor space, while also celebrating sustainability and environmental awareness.”
As the need for environmental accountability continues to increase, Graham is leading the way in programs and activities that engage our employees, partners and community stakeholders. We’re “walking the talk,” and proving that our commitment to green is strong.
“Our Environmental Day campaign reinforces our culture of sustainability to our employees and site workforce partners, and serves to educate our people on the practices that make a difference,” says Jamie Caithcart, Manager, Health, Safety and Environment. “It’s also an opportunity to engage our clients in the festivities, giving us the opportunity to work together in support of a common goal.”
