This project involved the construction of a new 2,275m2 maximum security unit at the Stony Mountain Institution. The project was built within the security perimeter of the existing penitentiary grounds, thus extremely strict security requirements were required throughout all phases of construction.
The facility consists of four 2-storey inmate ranges, an administration wing, and a centralized control area. Each inmate range has 24 cast-in-place concrete cells and a dining area. In addition, there are four laundry facilities, two indoor recreation areas, and two outdoor recreation areas.
All surfaces within the cells required pick-proofing and had to be made seamless for security protocols. Efficient repetition was paramount; Graham custom-engineered modularized formwork to ensure detailed embed placement and improved turnaround times.
