This project consisted of repurposing the existing 8th and 8th Health Building in downtown Calgary to accommodate the University of Calgary’s Downtown Campus. Phase One included asbestos abatement; demolition of all interior and exterior components; reinforcement of existing structural components; partial removal of the structure to accommodate new floor plans; extension of the structure; and raising the roof structure to accommodate a new two-storey internal atrium. Phase Two involved interior tenant work including the entire fitout of all six floors as well as the basement. Phase Three was an update of the adjacent parkade including structural upgrades, re-surfacing, revamping of the mechanical and electrical systems, and the design and installation of a Ned Khan exterior screening system.
The building achieved LEED® Silver and includes a live roof, high-efficiency mechanical, carbon dioxide monitoring, low VOC materials, and high-efficiency windows.
