Davenport Diamond Greenway

Location: Toronto, ON

The Project

The Davenport Diamond Greenway will be a new public corridor located between Davenport Road and Paton Road in Toronto’s west end, just north of Bloor Street West. The project will introduce a fully accessible multi-use pathway connecting surrounding neighbourhoods while creating new public spaces along the corridor.

A pedestrian bridge spanning the freight rail tracks north of Dupont Street will provide a safe grade-separated crossing and link the greenway to the broader local pathway network. The corridor will also incorporate landscaped gathering areas, including Dupont Bridge Square and Wallace Avenue Market Square, which will provide seating, lighting and open space for community use. Access points will connect the greenway to nearby streets, sidewalks and parks, and the corridor will include sustainable landscaping, gardens and a designated off-leash dog area.

Delivered as part of the GO Expansion program, the greenway will contribute to broader regional transit improvements while introducing a long-term public amenity that enhances connectivity and public space within the surrounding community.

Project Scopes

Streetscape and Pedestrian Infrastructure

Construction activities will include the development of new pedestrian infrastructure and public realm improvements along the corridor. Work at Dupont Street will involve reconstruction of sidewalk and ramp access to accommodate the greenway alignment and improve accessibility. The works will include demolition of existing pedestrian infrastructure, installation of underground electrical duct banks and chambers, construction of new sidewalk foundations, and coordination with signalized intersections and surrounding streetscape elements.

Waterworks and Utility Upgrades

Waterworks and underground utility upgrades will also be undertaken in the surrounding neighbourhood streets. New water main connections and hydrant infrastructure will be installed along Sarnia and Wallace Avenues to support greenway amenities and maintain reliable municipal service. Construction activities will include excavation, pipe installation, bedding and testing, followed by roadway and surface restoration within the public right-of-way.

Bridge and Structural Foundations

The project will also include construction of a pedestrian bridge structure and associated switchback ramp access connecting the greenway across the freight rail corridor. Foundation works will involve drilling and micro-piling operations to support bridge piers and ramp mechanically stabilized earth system, followed by reinforcement and concrete placement for structural components.

Landscaping and Public Realm Features

Additional works across the site will include pathway construction, landscaping, lighting installation and the creation of public gathering spaces. These improvements will integrate the greenway with surrounding streets, parks and neighbourhood amenities while establishing a continuous active transportation corridor through the area.
