The Winston Golf Club – Clubhouse Redevelopment

Located just minutes from downtown Calgary, The Winston Golf Club is one of the city’s oldest golf courses, established in 1923. Working as General Contractor with FWBA Architects, Graham delivered the redevelopment of the Club’s clubhouse, creating a modern, year-round facility that enhances the member experience while expanding opportunities for dining, social gatherings and private events.

The project involved salvaging a portion of the existing clubhouse and integrating it into a new 21,000-square-foot facility. The completed building includes expansive restaurant, lounge and patio areas overlooking the course, private banquet and meeting facilities, administration areas, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a pro shop, golf simulators and club storage.

Clubhouse Redevelopment

At the centre of the design is a spacious atrium that serves as the clubhouse’s primary arrival and gathering space. Visible from across the golf course, the atrium connects the main entrance with the restaurant, banquet hall and commercial kitchen, while also providing access to the lower-level pro shop and cart storage areas on the east side of the course.

The redevelopment required careful integration of retained portions of the original clubhouse with the new construction, coordinating structural, architectural and building systems to create a cohesive facility. The work also had to accommodate the operational requirements of the golf course while delivering the new hospitality, event and member spaces.

Connection to the Golf Course

The clubhouse was designed to take full advantage of its prominent Calgary setting and views across the surrounding course. Expansive wrap-around windows in the restaurant provide panoramic views of the eastern landscape, while generous dining and patio areas strengthen the connection between the interior spaces and the golf course beyond.

The completed clubhouse provides The Winston with a contemporary facility that supports golf operations, dining, events and year-round social use while maintaining a strong connection to the Club’s long-established setting.
