Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre
Location: Prince Albert, SK
The newly completed facility has been constructed as a single integrated building, designed to provide seamless access between its diverse recreational and commercial amenities. Once inside, families and groups can easily move between the aquatics area, twin arenas, and various commercial spaces, enhancing overall user convenience and community interaction.
The aquatics area spans 51,500 square feet and features an eight-lane, 25-meter competitive pool, a wave pool, splash pad, lazy river, two water slides, and a whirlpool. Adjacent to this space, twin arenas occupy 77,159 square feet and include two NHL-sized rinks, accommodating seating for 360 spectators in one rink and 630 in the other, along with spacious dressing rooms. A common area of 14,700 square feet houses a multipurpose room and leasable spaces for commercial tenants.
Designed for Everyone
Design elements throughout the facility emphasize user experience and spectator comfort. Innovative aquatic features like interactive water elements, slides, and lazy rivers are designed to attract diverse user groups, while integrated, adaptable spaces allow visitors to actively engage with and observe various activities simultaneously.
Environmental Sustainability
Environmental sustainability has been prioritized throughout the project. The facility features a highly efficient building envelope system with enhanced insulation, airtight seals, and comprehensive testing to minimize energy loss. Energy-efficient equipment includes high-efficiency boilers, variable-speed pumps, and heat recovery technology from the ice plant, which provides in-floor heating in the lobby and rink seating areas. Additionally, LED lighting with occupancy sensors reduces electricity use, efficient plumbing fixtures promote water conservation, and natural alternatives, such as ultraviolet treatments, reduce chemical dependency in the aquatics area.
Community Impacts
This new community-oriented facility is expected to significantly benefit the local area by providing a safe and engaging environment for swimming lessons, competitive sports, and leisure activities, thereby promoting overall community wellness and engagement. Additionally, the commercial spaces will generate economic opportunities and jobs, while the building’s accessible and inclusive design encourages social cohesion by enabling easy and comfortable use for all visitors.
