Amisk Wâciw Âsokan (Beaver Hills Bridge) Officially Open

September 19, 2025

Graham is proud to announce the official opening of the Edmonton-Strathcona County Footbridge. At the grand ceremony on Friday, September 12, it was revealed that the bridge has been named Amisk Wâciw Âsokan, meaning Beaver Hills Bridge.

Construction began in June 2023 following extensive engagement with stakeholder groups dedicated to sustainable development in the North Saskatchewan River Valley. The new crossing connects northeast Edmonton to Strathcona County and links into more than 100 kilometres of trails throughout the valley, including a continuous route from Devon to Fort Saskatchewan.

The footbridge features concrete gathering areas at both ends, shared asphalt pathways that tie into the broader trail network, and a concrete bridge deck topped with a flexible wearing surface. Visitors can also enjoy viewing lookouts positioned above each pier, complete with canopy structures and precast concrete benches that create comfortable spaces to pause and take in the surrounding landscape.

The public opening marks the final milestone in this collaborative project—one that highlights the strength of partnership in balancing environmental stewardship with infrastructure excellence.
