Project Overview
Graham is pleased to announce that construction is now underway on the redevelopment and expansion of Belmont House, a senior care residence that has been providing care to the local community for over 170 years in midtown Toronto. The project involves the delivery of a new 11-storey building that will expand Belmont House’s capacity from 140 to 308 long-term care beds and 32 new assisted living beds alongside the current 82 apartments. The first residents are expected to move in by fall 2028.
Scope of Work & Site Configuration
The new building is being constructed on a 14,245 m² lot and incorporates a combination of one-, five- and seven-storey volumes, surface parking and landscaped courtyards. Graham’s scope includes full structural construction, building envelope, interior fit-out, systems integration and associated site works. Throughout construction, the existing Belmont House facility will remain operational, requiring careful planning to maintain safe access for residents, families and staff.

Design & Resident Environment
The redevelopment is designed around eight “resident home areas” (RHAs), each serving 21 residents in smaller, more familiar living environments with direct access to dining rooms, activity spaces, lounges and bedrooms. Ground-level program elements will include a resident lounge, café, tuck shop and renovated auditorium. Two upper floors will provide retirement living suites, creating a complete continuum of care within a single campus.
As Belmont House advances its long-standing mission of serving seniors in the community, the redevelopment represents a significant milestone for the organization. Reflecting on the expansion, Maria Elias, CEO of Belmont House, noted: “Belmont House was established in 1852, and this is an exciting time for us as we move forward into the future and prepare to care for an additional 200 seniors in our new building, including 168 long-term care residents. This expansion will enable us to grow our campus of care and provide a continuum of care that supports all levels of care for our seniors in our community. We are very grateful for support and funding from the Ontario government and our generous donors that are making this expansion a reality.” (Ontario, Jan. 12, 2026)
Graham’s Experience
Belmont House adds to Graham’s expanding long-term care portfolio in Ontario, which includes recent projects such as Yee Hong Finch 2 and Shalom Manor—reflecting growing capabilities in the design and delivery of healthcare facilities. According to Dominic Gallagher, District Manager, Buildings, “The Belmont House redevelopment reinforces our continued growth in Ontario’s long-term care sector and highlights the strength of our preconstruction and delivery teams. We look forward to working closely with the client and BTY Group and Montgomery Sisam Architects to successfully deliver this important addition to the community.”
