Graham Featured in Build Canada: Showcasing Sustainable Innovation at the Lawson Centre for Sustainability

November 26, 2025

Graham Construction is proud to be featured in Build Canada for our work on the Lawson Centre for Sustainability at Trinity College, University of Toronto—a landmark project that demonstrates how innovation, low-carbon design, and mass-timber construction are shaping the future of educational facilities across North America.

The article, “Leading Sustainability Through Innovation: How Graham Construction Is Building the Lawson Centre for Sustainability,” offers an in-depth look at the building’s advanced ecological strategies, including its geothermal heating and cooling network, high-performance building envelope, low-carbon concrete, green roofs, interior living walls, rainwater harvesting systems, and comprehensive mass-timber moisture-management plan.

In the feature, Sean Carroll, Site Superintendent, highlights the sustainable materials, engineering approaches, and digital tools that are helping the project pursue both LEED Platinum and Zero Carbon Building certification—positioning it as one of Canada’s most forward-looking student residence buildings.

“The Lawson Centre has been designed around high-efficiency systems and low-carbon materials from the outset,” notes Carroll in the interview. “Every component—from the geothermal field to the vapour-permeable envelope—was selected to maximize long-term performance and reduce environmental impact.”

Project Significance

The Lawson Centre is a flagship example of Graham’s commitment to sustainable construction and innovative delivery. With extensive mass-timber integration and a suite of next-generation mechanical and environmental systems, it stands as a model for future campus developments and a milestone in Trinity College’s long-term sustainability strategy.
