Graham is proud to announce the official completion of the North Central Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Calgary, Alberta. Following the opening of twelve (12) stations at the end of 2024, the final four (4) stations—along with an additional downtown stop—opened this summer, marking the full completion of this important transit initiative.
The North Central BRT was designed to improve connectivity for north central communities and support future transit expansion. The route extends from 28th avenue along Centre Street, through Harvest Hills Boulevard N.E., and to the North Pointe Terminal near County Hills Blvd., providing more reliable service and better access for thousands of daily commuters. Notable is the stations’ design, blending mass timber and structural steel in the roof construction.
This milestone reflects the successful coordination of a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. The project required careful integration of transit operations, traffic and pedestrian mobility, utility providers (ENMAX, TELUS, and Rogers), private property owners, subtrades, and City-led programs such as Various Street Improvements (VSI) and Signals.
Work was staged across ten distinct sites, where the team managed strict lane closure restrictions—limited to three lanes at any time—while addressing challenges such as early pile refusal, alignment and grade adjustments, and unforeseen utility conflicts. Throughout construction, safety remained a top priority, with more than 82,000 work hours completed without a single lost-time injury.
We thank our project partners—the City of Calgary, Stantec, and GEC Architecture—for their collaboration and meticulous planning, which helped manage risks and ensure the project was delivered on schedule.
