March 3, 2026

Year One Progress Update

The Fish Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades project in Calgary, Alberta has completed its first year of active construction. Following site mobilization in Fall 2025, preconstruction activities advanced and five work packages have now transitioned into construction. Project staffing has also expanded to support the increasing scope of work.

Key Work Packages Underway

Electrical Upgrades

Work commenced in Summer 2025 on major electrical system improvements. Scope includes construction of a new electrical switchgear and generator building, along with full replacement of existing plant electrical feeds. Construction activities are scheduled to continue through mid-2027.

UV Disinfection Expansion

Construction of the UV disinfection expansion is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026. The expansion will add two new UV channels, doubling existing capacity, in addition to upgrades to the current channels and installation of a new treated effluent water system. Work is expected to continue into early 2029.

Utility Relocations

Since September 2025, relocation of the existing plant sanitary bypass line and associated infrastructure has been underway to accommodate the future Operations, Maintenance & Administration Building. Completion of this work is anticipated in Spring 2026.

Looking Ahead

In collaboration with the City of Calgary, additional work packages are expected to be finalized later this summer as preconstruction activities continue. These future scopes will further advance the long-term modernization of the facility.

The upgrades will increase treatment capacity, enhance operational resilience, and support Calgary’s long-term wastewater management requirements while maintaining environmental protection standards.
