Lethbridge Water Treatment Plant Project Advances Capacity and Resiliency

May 22, 2026

Project Overview

Construction is progressing on the Lethbridge Water Treatment Plant – Medium Voltage Electrical Upgrades and Process Redundancy project in Lethbridge. The project is focused on enhancing the reliability, resiliency, and long-term performance of the City of Lethbridge’s water treatment infrastructure through a series of electrical, mechanical, and process improvements.

Following project mobilization in late 2025, work is now advancing both inside the existing treatment plant and across multiple exterior work areas.

Early Design and Site Progress

During the early phases of the project, the team optimized the design and location of the new high-rate clarifier (HRC) to reduce construction risks and protect critical infrastructure, including nearby raw water intake lines and an environmentally sensitive pond.

On site, crews have completed shoring wall installation and excavation activities for the new HRC structure. Structural concrete work is now underway, beginning with placement of the base slabs.

Plant Upgrades Underway

Inside the existing treatment plant, electrical and mechanical upgrades are progressing to support improved operational reliability and process redundancy. Current work includes installation of new electrical systems, chemical feed systems, and a new effluent channel that will connect the HRC to the plant’s existing filtration process.

Construction is also advancing on a new transformer patio as part of the facility’s medium-voltage electrical infrastructure improvements.

Supporting Long-Term Reliability

The project represents a significant investment in the continued resiliency and capacity of Lethbridge’s water treatment system, helping support reliable water service for the community well into the future.
