Operational Completion of Starlight Pump Station in Calgary

April 29, 2025

Calgary, AB – Graham is pleased to announce that the Starlight Pump Station in Calgary reached operational completion in April. This facility is designed to supply water and provide fire suppression services for southwest Calgary and future surrounding communities.

The CDN $28M project was executed in three phases: initial site preparation, foundations, and construction of the interim pump station from 2020 to 2022; structural additions and installation of new equipment followed from 2023 to 2025.

Throughout the project, Graham collaborated with the City of Calgary to meticulously plan construction activities, ensuring continuous facility operations and maintaining rigorous safety standards. As the area’s sole water service provider, uninterrupted operation—both during the transition from the interim to the newly completed station and afterward—was critical.

Key features of the new Starlight Pump Station include:

  • Process piping in the pump room
  • Six new pumps and two surge tanks
  • Additional permanent electrical and generator rooms
  • Installation of a 999-kilowatt generator, 600-volt switchgear, and six Variable Frequency Drives

The station utilizes a sophisticated staging of pumps, consisting of two 75-horsepower pumps, one 125-horsepower pump, and three 250-horsepower pumps, to effectively meet water service demands. With a capacity of 25 megalitres per day, the Starlight Pump Station supports ongoing and future development in Calgary’s southwest.

Graham will complete the decommissioning of the interim station and final sitework by June, after which the new pump station will be officially turned over to the City of Calgary.
