Canadian Forces Military Police Academy

Location: Borden, Ontario

Project Overview

Located in Borden, Ontario, the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy is a purpose-built training facility designed to support the development of Canada’s military police personnel. The approximately 100,000-square-foot facility delivers a specialized environment where career, security, and investigative training programs are conducted in a setting that reflects real-world operational conditions.

Organized around a central core featuring a library and heritage hall, the building extends into three primary wings that house instructional, technical, and simulation-based training spaces with controlled access. The layout brings together academic learning and hands-on training within a single, integrated environment.

Design and Construction

The facility was designed to accommodate a wide range of training functions, requiring careful coordination of spatial planning, building systems, and specialized program requirements. Lecture halls and classrooms are supported by dedicated training rooms and forensic-identification labs, enabling both theoretical instruction and applied learning.

A key component of the project is the integration of scenario-based training environments. Purpose-built mock-ups of police stations, detention facilities, and residential settings allow cadets to train in realistic conditions. Additional features include a laser shooting simulation room, a driving simulation space, and an indoor shooting range, all designed to support varied and evolving training needs.

Operational Environment

As a training-focused facility, the Academy is designed to replicate the conditions and pressures of real-world policing environments. The building supports a continuous flow between instruction, simulation, and evaluation, allowing cadets to develop skills in a setting that mirrors operational realities.

This level of integration requires more than standard construction. Acoustics, safety systems, and spatial adjacencies were all considered to ensure that each component functions effectively within the broader training environment. The result is a cohesive facility where each space contributes to overall program delivery.

Outcome

The completed Academy provides a dedicated, purpose-built environment for military police training in Canada. By combining academic, technical, and simulation-based spaces within a unified facility, the project supports comprehensive skill development and long-term operational readiness for Canada’s defence personnel.
