Clarington Police Complex
Location: Bowmanville, Ontario
Project Overview
Located in Bowmanville, Ontario, the Clarington Police Complex is a purpose-built operational facility designed to support frontline policing, investigative work, and forensic analysis within a growing community. Positioned at the intersection of Highway 2 and Maple Grove Road, the complex is elevated within its surroundings, reinforcing both its presence and its role in serving the region.
Phase one of the development includes two integrated buildings arranged in an L-shaped configuration: the 49,000-square-foot East Division Building and the 23,500-square-foot Forensic Investigation Facility. Together, these components create a cohesive environment that brings core policing functions into a single, coordinated campus.
Design and Construction
The East Division Building is constructed as a non-combustible, one-storey steel-frame structure, designed to accommodate a range of operational functions including administration, investigations, patrol, and support services. Its layout is organized to enable clear circulation and efficient interaction between departments, supporting both daily operations and responsive service delivery.
The adjacent Forensic Investigation Facility provides dedicated space for evidence handling and analysis, complementing the operational capabilities of the division building. The integration of these two facilities allows for streamlined workflows between frontline policing and investigative functions.
At the centre of the complex, an open-roof courtyard introduces natural light into surrounding work and lounge areas, enhancing the internal environment while maintaining the controlled and secure nature of the facility.
Operational Environment
As an active policing facility, the complex is designed to support continuous operations across multiple functions. The building layout, spatial adjacencies, and system integrations are aligned to ensure that administrative, operational, and investigative teams can work efficiently within a secure and coordinated environment.
The facility also reflects the need for adaptability, accommodating evolving operational requirements while maintaining a strong connection to the community it serves.
Outcome
The Clarington Police Complex delivers a purpose-built environment that supports modern policing operations through integrated design and functional clarity. By bringing together operational, administrative, and forensic capabilities within a single development, the project enhances service delivery and contributes to the long-term effectiveness of regional policing infrastructure.
