Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory NERSC 9 Facility
Location: Berkeley, CA
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Shyh Wang Hall project prepared the facility for installation of NERSC 9, a next-generation high-performance computing system for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center.

The work expanded the facility’s power and cooling capacity to support the new system. Scope included preconstruction and construction of new water cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, air handling units, exhaust fans, electrical substations and distribution equipment, along with site preparation and final system connections.
NERSC 9 significantly increased the centre’s computational capacity, supporting thousands of scientists and hundreds of research projects each year.
